Dr. McGuire Consultation

Your Consultation

All cosmetic consultations will take place at Dr. McGuire's personal office at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, Ontario. This quiet and private setting helps patients feel comfortable discussing their surgical concerns. Patients are welcome to bring a support person to the consultation. Once a contact form has been completed online, Dr. McGuire's administrative assistant will contact you for an appointment at your convenience.

Consultation

The consultation is arguably the most crucial step in your cosmetic surgery journey. Prior to the consultation, it is helpful if you spend time thinking about your aesthetic goals and what you are trying to achieve with plastic surgery. The decision to pursue surgery should not be rushed and should only be undertaken when both the patient and surgeon have clear expectations.

The consultation will start by discussing the specific issues that concern you and why. Exploring how long the issues have been bothering you and why you would like to change your appearance is important. A detailed medical history, including previous surgeries, health problems (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.), medications, and allergies will be reviewed. Your social history (diet, exercise, smoking etc.) will also be discussed in depth to ensure you have a lifestyle that permits a safe and effective surgical outcome.

A physical examination will be performed to determine what could be improved with surgery. Any abnormalities will be noted and further testing through imaging (e.g. CT scan) or labs may be required before proceeding.

Once the medical history and physical examination are performed, standardized pictures will be taken to help with surgical planning. If there are concerns from your history of physical examination, an anesthesiologist may be consulted prior to surgery. Dr. McGuire will discuss what surgical options are likely to be most effective in achieving the results you desire. All risks and benefits of each option will be discussed in detail.

Following the consultation a detailed consent form will be sent. The consent form details all major risks of a particular procedure and should be reviewed by the patient in detail. A quote will be also be provided based on the options you discussed. The quote will encompass Dr. McGuire's surgical professional fee, anesthesia expenses, implant fees (if required), and relevant facility fees.

Preoperative Appointment

Prior to surgery, Dr. McGuire will meet with you once more. Dr. McGuire encourages patients to write down any questions prior to the preoperative appointment so detailed information can be provided. The second appointment is to solidify the surgical plan, review preoperative photographs, review relevant imaging or labs, and answer any questions. The consent form will be reviewed in depth and signed. Anticipated postoperative recovery will be reviewed and follow up will be booked.
