Neck Liposuction

Neck liposuction is a procedure used to remove excess fat from beneath the jawline and in the neck. Neck liposuction has gained popularity as a way to improve the jawline and chin contours, narrow the neck, and remove the appearance of a double chin. The procedure is considered minimally invasive and has a short recovery, adding to its attractiveness.

Treatment Time

1 hour; the procedure can be completed under local anesthetic as an isolated procedure, or under general anesthetic if the patient prefers or as part of other facial rejuvenation procedures.

Incisions

Only three very small incisions (approximately 5mm) are used to allow the introduction of the liposuction cannula. These are placed below the chin and close to the angle of the jaw to allow removal of fat from multiple angles.

Benefits

Neck liposuction is a short procedure with pronounced results. Through small incisions you are able to provide a slimmer neck, remove a double chin, and refine the jawline and chin contours.

Technique

Small incisions are used below the chin and at the angle of the jaw to introduce a thin tube, called a cannula, beneath the skin. A solution of saline and local anesthetic is introduced below the skin before using negative suction to remove fat. A soft wrap is placed beneath the chin and jaw to support the tissue as it heals.

Recovery

1-2 weeks for bruising and swelling to subside. Final results can be expected after 1-2 months however this varies. A compression garment is used below the chin and jaw for 4-6 weeks.

Risks

The risks of neck liposuction are minimal. There is a small risk of infection and bleeding from the incisions, with the main risk being over or under removal of fat from beneath the jaw and in the neck.

Who are the best candidates?

Younger patients who have minimal skin excess or laxity, otherwise healthy, non-smokers, have realistic expectations, and desire a more refined neck and jawline.

Adjunct Procedures

As this procedure is typically used in younger patients it's often completed on its own. However, it can easily be combined with rhinoplasty, buccal fat removal, or upper/lower blepharoplasty.
