Where will my consultation take place?

Your consultation will take place in Dr. McGuire's personal office at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, Ontario. The consultation will be between 20-45 minutes depending on the procedure. Further details will be provided once a consultation is booked. 

How many times do I see Dr. McGuire before surgery?

For major aesthetic surgery (facelift, rhinoplasty, body contouring, etc.) you will see Dr. McGuire a minimum of two times before surgery. During the first consultation all options will be discussed and the procedure will be reviewed. At the second visit further questions will be answered and the consent form will be reviewed in detail prior to signing. Further visits can be arranged if necessary. 

Do I need a referral to see Dr. McGuire?

No referral is needed for a cosmetic consultation as cosmetic procedures are not covered by provincial health plans. Please fill out the contact form on this website and Dr. McGuire's administrative assistant will be in contact to schedule a consultation at your convenience.  

Is there a fee for my consultation?

There is a fee of $250 for your consultation. This can be paid during your initial visit by e-transfer, credit card, or cash. This payment is not applied to your surgical fee should you decide to book surgery with Dr. McGuire.  

What can I do to improve my scar?

After your operation Dr. McGuire will go over details related to scar care. Generally scar care combines gentle moisturizers, scar massage, sun avoidance, pressure relief garments, and occasionally steroid injections. Specific scar care depends on the procedure. 

Is cosmetic surgery covered by health insurance?

Cosmetic surgery is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan in Ontario. Cosmetic surgery is not considered essential by the Ministry of Health. While Dr. McGuire does also perform medically necessary surgery, all procedures on this website are not covered.  

What will happen if I gain or lose weight after surgery?

Weight gain or loss may change the results of surgery. Ideally surgery will be performed once your weight is stable for at least a year. As an example, if you gain weight after an abdominoplasty it may obscure your results and lead to reaccumulation of fat and skin above your incision. 

Where will my surgery take place?

Surgery will take place at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, the Woolen Mill Surgical Centre in Kingston, or the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital in Napanee. Surgery location will depend on availability and post-procedure monitoring requirements. 

What will happen during my consultation?

A detailed medical and surgical history will be taken. Your aesthetic concerns will be explored and a physical exam will be performed. Surgical and non-surgical options will be presented based on the information provided. Diagrams will be used to explain the surgery in detail. All questions will be answered then a surgical quote will be provided within the following few days. 

What does the cost of surgery encompass?

Surgical cost is broken down into three components. Dr. McGuire's surgical fee, anesthetic fee, and hospital fee (operating room time, supplies, nursing support, etc.). All post-operative care is included within the quotation.  

How much time will I need off after surgery?

How much time you need off after surgery varies  between procedures. Please refer to the specific procedure in the menu. Dr. McGuire will go over restrictions and anticipated recovery during your initial consultation. 

How long will the results last?

Duration of results depend on the procedure itself, patient age, weight gain, and adherence to recommendations. Most procedures last for many years, even decades, however this will be discussed in detail during your consultation. 

How do I pay for my surgery?

Your surgery can be paid for by e-transfer or credit card. Dr. McGuire administrative assistant will provide all necessary information for payment once your surgery is booked. Other methods of payment may also be accepted.

Do I have to stay in hospital overnight after surgery?

The vast majority of procedures are day surgery, meaning you can go home the day of surgery. The following procedures will require an overnight stay: thighplasty, full body lift, and certain combination of procedures (e.g. breast augmentation and abdominoplasty).
